In this Blog you meet Dieudonné Gakire, an inspiring young men from Rwanda. The initiator and project leader of the OWC Empowerment Hub Dusego.
THE NEW TIMES
In September 2020, Dieudonné was interviewed by THE NEW TIMES News Paper of Rwanda. A very interesting moment, becasue we just had started the project collaboration with the TU/e team!

“Dieudonné Gakire, a writer, social entrepreneur and public speaker, grew up in the remote village of Mwendo in Ruhango District, Southern Province.
He recalls growing up in a community that lacked basics such as electricity and a limited access to clean drinking water and good education. His inspiration was limited too for the only inspiring people he saw around, as he says, were primary teachers, Catholic priests, and nurses.
But when he moved to Kigali in 2008 at the age of 15, Gakire says his life changed for the better. He had access to better education and his scope of dreams was expanded.”

AUTHOR OF THE BOOK: A DREAMING CHILD
A very meaningful book about the Rwandan genocide that occurred between 7 April and 4 July 1994. During this period of around 100 days, members of the Tutsi minority ethnic group, as well as some moderate Hutu, were slaughtered by armed militias. The most widely accepted scholarly estimates are more than 1,000,000 Tutsi deaths. (Wikipedia)
Dieudonné writes about the causes and effects of this human disaster on youngsters, victims and perpetrators. To prevent such a terrible disaster from ever happening again, And to share what the youngest generations need to build a positive future again.

“This book is a beacon of peace, our history as Rwanda has brought up children that are strong willed, children who are fixers, they try to make right what went wrong in our past. Sometimes failing, other times succeeding. We can only wish them well, because they are our pillar as a nation.
Dear Rwanda, I assure you that I will finally get your light spread beyond your boarders, in all of Africa and the world, I am on my way to be the flicker of light in your darkness, even in death we can find hope and build a future for me and your people.“
