As human beings and individuals we play a very important role in the development of the current Climate Challenge. Our Lifestyle and the way we live together worldwide are creating the current situation with a disturbing picture of the future if we continue like this. The good news is that we as humans and individuals can also make the difference. By starting a global Climate positive movement! Through awareness, education and Climate positive entrepreneurship. A movement based on the new mindset ‘Every individual, every good idea and contribution to Climate improvement counts!’ An inclusive movement that brings young people from all countries together to undertake Climate Education & Entrepreneurship and Climate Solutions.
Climate change: young people in all countries are affected
The contribution to CO2 emissions and negative climate change differs per country. There are countries with a lot of negative impact and countries with little or no negative impact. The responsibility, or rather the duty to contribute to climate improvement, therefore differs per country. However, the consequences of climate change affect all countries. That is why it is important to involve young people from all countries in Climate Solutions. And we can!
Smartphones and the internet enable climate education and entrepreneurship in all countries
In all countries there are youngsters with smartphones and ideas for change in their communities. Some of them feel responsible for taking the lead in their communities and creating sustainable change with youngsters. In 2015-2020, OWC conducted research with these young leaders on corresponding basic needs of youngsters worldwide. The research question: What do young people need to realize sustainable change and a positive future perspective in their own community and country?
The research result was unanimous! In all countries, young people can actively contribute to sustainable change and positive future prospects if they have access to:
- Smartphone & ICT basic training and education about Low Technology
- Informal education on sustainable themes: by sharing ideas, knowledge, expertise and examples of practical projects and start-ups for sustainable change. To learn from and copy.
- Empowerment and Entrepreneurship training to develop solutions for change into local projects or start-ups with the help of the local and international community.
- Dialogue and collaboration with local authorities and partners to implement solutions for change and develop future oriented and sustainable policies.
These basic needs therefore form the basis of the Living Legends Pop Up School where youngsters can share, learn and undertake Climate solutions online 24/7.
Unlearning and learning
It is very exciting and effective to tackle and solve Climate challenges in mixed teams of young people from prosperous and developing countries! Much can be learned from and with each other in this collaboration. And to gain inspiration to sustainably change of Lifestyle and society. Individually and together.
In prosperous countries, the Carbon Footprint of most inhabitants has to be reduced. Developing a sustainable, livable Lifestyle here means: ‘unlearning’ many behaviors and habits. To discover how less use of the Earth can go perfectly well with more happiness, success, meaningful and healthy living. Individually and together.
Developing countries are still working hard on basic needs and prosperity for everyone. While climate challenges add to that and slow down the road to basic needs. Relief of manual labor in household, agriculture and society with the help of Low Technology contributes quickly to primary basic needs and space for personal development, Climate Education & Entrepreneurship of young people in these countries. In this way they can tackle the consequences of climate change with young people internationally. They are very motivated to participate in this. And come up with smart solutions.
Inclusive Climate Education accelerates positive Climate Change
It is precisely by tackling and solving the Climate challenges with young people from all countries that an acceleration of change of Lifestyle and society is created that ultimately benefits everyone. Including our earth. This enables us to achieve the urgent Climate Goals better and on time.
With the new Mindset we can stand up together with so many!
Many youngsters have a smartphone, also in developing countries. Via social media such as YouTube, Facebook, w’app and Zoom it is possible to tackle and solve Climate challenges together with youngsters from different countries. Solutions that can be shared and copied online with youngsters from other countries where Climate Challenges are playing.
From the mindset ‘Every individual, every idea and contribution for positive Climate change counts’, we are much better able to join forces worldwide. With anyone who wants to go for it now.
By sharing and helping each other to develop climate solutions into startups with impact, new employment opportunities and basic incomes are created for more and more youngsters. With the additional outcome that inequality in the world is decreasing significantly and more and more youngsters are actively participating!
If we succeed, we can stand up with a large group for Climate improvement in the global society. Bottom up, with no one left behind. Then there are so many of us! More than enough to cause a tilt.
