#4 Design online basic concept

In Climate Education, Climate Entrepreneurship, Global Goals, Living Legends, Living Legends Pop Up School by Monique van Dam

Almost everyone knows: It takes a Village to raise a child. In other words, learning in a classroom is not enough to develop to the fullest! Optimal learning is achieved through a combination of theory and practice. Inside and outside school in society. With residents as knowledge partners, as examples of social and sustainable change.

Today we see: It takes the World to raise a youngster! Because climate change goes beyond national borders and affects everyone. And luckily: the internet connects us! We can already share and undertake education and projects with young people in all countries via smartphones. This happens in the Living Legends Pop Up School, by and for young people in collaboration with local residents and partners.

Online Living Legends School

In 2021-2022, we will design the online infrastructure of the Living Legends Pop Up School that is needed to collaborate, learn, share and help each other in an accessible international environment. And we will also work out the first themes and examples that show how young people organize climate education & entrepreneurship in the Living Legends Pop Up School.

1st design Living Legends Pop Up School

Last week we put the basic concept on paper.

For us, learning means: sharing practical examples, ideas, knowledge and expertise.

To do this online and in collaboration with young people (including from developing countries), we use:

  • the Living Legends Community Facebook group
  • the Living Legends Pop Up School website
  • the Living Legends Community YouTube channel

In addition, we have the Living Legends Community Huddle platform. On this platform:

  • the Living Legends team is working with knowledge partners on the first practical examples, knowledge and expertise that they will share in the Living Legends school at the end of 2021.
  • we share e-learning about important basic subjects such as: ICT basic skills, English, climate themes, the 17 Global Goals for sustainable development, 30 Human Rights, empowerment, circulating thinking and doing, social entrepreneurship, etc.
  • young people are trained to become Living Legends in an accessible way
  • Living Legends collaborate on a project basis with sponsors and donors
Learning and unlearning from & with each other

After 9 years of experimenting and experiencing how young people organize education and entrepreneurship, we see that in this way we can make climate education & entrepreneurship accessible to all youth. And more importantly: in the Living Legends Pop Up School, everyone gets the chance to learn and unlearn everything we need for a climate proof future.

Unlearning to drastically reduce our carbon footprint and change our lifestyle is necessary in the prosperous countries. Youngsters in developing countries are our best examples in this. Very interesting to discover this!

Next week info about the 3 communities of the Living Legends Pop Up School.

Have a nice Sunday!
