The IPCC report shows: it is high time to organize Climate Education! Sustainable solutions for the current climate situation start with education about climate, change and all related topics. If you can’t learn about climate issues, you get stuck in the example you get at home, in your family, at school, in your city or village, through social media and you are deprived of the right to make your own choices for change!
Climate education starts with education for everyone from 4 to 100 years, because no one has learned about all the themes that matter now. Education that goes much further than theory: it involves learning by doing, experimenting, working on a project basis on current issues and solutions. Connected not only locally, but internationally as global citizens because we inhabit one planet together, because climate and sustainability cross all national borders, because we can learn a lot from each other and we can only permanently implement the sustainable solutions we find if we work together.
Schools will not realize this urgent education in the short term, many educational institutions are still working on education according to the traditional curriculum, which lacks daily research, experiment and entrepreneurship for change. They need time to make the transition to future-oriented education. Time we can’t lose!
Therefore a call to all youngsters, parents, grandparents, entrepreneurs, companies and other lovers of youth and their sustainable future!
Climate education is urgently needed now
Starting for our youth and young people from 10 to 30 years old! They are the next young adults and generation who can contribute to the recovery of the climate and everything related to it with a new mindset and lifestyle. As the youngest generation, they can become the extra teachers for Climate Education for all generations. They can develop solutions and examples for climate change in the short term, which the older generations can copy!
With informal education on climate themes, technology, empowerment and entrepreneurship, youth develops awareness, change of mindset, the art of making sustainable choices, own involvement, responsibility, participation and therefore change of lifestyle.
A fast way to start climate education, locally and internationally
If you ask young people internationally what future-oriented, quality education looks like, they tell you: informal, learning by doing, with knowledge about and examples of sustainable themes, IT & technology, empowerment, social entrepreneurship. So that as a young person you can develop your meaningful contribution to a sustainable society in a self-reliant, proactive and entrepreneurial way and, if possible, develop your own idea for change into a local project or startup for impact.
As 30+ adults, we can build, facilitate and implement this informal education WITH young people aged 10 to 30. In One World Citizens, young people have already laid the foundation for this quality education with the Living Legends concept in 2012-2021!
How to get started
Climate education starts in the Living Legends Pop Up School & Community:
- Online & offline, 24/7
- In collaboration with young people from different countries
- With training in empowerment and social entrepreneurship
- Based on your own ideas, solutions, projects for change that you develop into a working prototype or concept in collaboration with peers, knowledge partners and experts in the (online) community.
- While presenting your idea or project and current requests for help in the community monthly to find helpers, partners and implement your idea or project step by step in society.
If everyone contributes with knowledge, personal commitment, resources and small budgets, we can start building Climate Education together from today!
Which themes to start with
14,000 scientists already announced it on July 28: Climate action is really needed now! They examined the amount of deforestation, greenhouse gases, extreme weather and the thickness of permanent ice, among other things. Eighteen signs would be at negative record highs or lows. According to them, there are six main lines of possible climate policy. Those are these:
Six main lines:
- Stop using fossil fuels
- Significant reduction of pollutant emissions
- Ecosystems need to be restored
- Humans should switch to a plant-based diet
- The number of people on earth should no longer grow
- The world should move away from the pursuit of economic economies of scale
And additionally any social or sustainable theme that young people themselves connect with Climate Education.
Climate education for all youth, now is the time to invest in this. Let’s make it happen!
- Step by step, bottom up, low budget, accessible to everyone
- With sustainable profit for yourself* and everyone**
